Welcome, Stranger

For: baritone voice and piano

Duration: 5-6 minutes

Program Note: This is a song made up of fragments of Blake's poetry from "Song for a Shepherd" and "The Couch of Death," telling the story of the character of Death watching an intimate moment unfold.

This piece was originally composed as miniatures to be superimposed on Alexander Scriabin's Black Mass piano sonata. Therefore, much of the musical material is re-imaginings of quotes from his sonata. If you wish to perform the piece in this way with more of the Scriabin as interludes, please contact me! (This piece is perfect for a collaborative pianist who wants to show off more of their solo skills in a vocal recital setting.)
